Communication and Identity Differences in the Family
Survey and interview studies examining how salient identity difference in the families (e.g., political, religious, ethnic-racial) are communicatively managed and the implications for individual well-being and relational solidarity.

Communication and Ethnic-Racial Identity
A series of interview and survey studies examining (a) identity development, communication processes with friends-family-community, and general well-being of individuals with mixed ethnic-racial backgrounds; and (b) socialization process related to identity and well-being for individuals from minoritized ethnic-racial groups.

Socialization of Inclusive Worldviews
Studies examining the manner in which socialization processes are associated with identity and intergroup attitues, inclusive worldviews, global citizenship, and/or prosocial orientations toward others.

Intergroup Contact and Intergroup Dialogue
Inquiries into effective processes and constructive outcomes related to intergroup contact and/or intergroup dialogue in various social and relational contexts.

Contested Identities, Communication, and Well-Being
Guided by intergroup theorizing, social identity complexity theory, research on liminal identity, and stigma, projects focus on those identities that are stigmatized, misunderstood, or unrecognized resulting in individuals facing explicit or implicit challenges to legitimacy of identity, value of identity, and or “visibility” (i.e., presence) of identity.
